# Saruman

**Saruman** is a physical machine residing in the CSL [Machine Room](/general/machine-room.md). It currently serves as one of the [Understudy ](/machines/understudy.md)servers, along with [Fiordland](/machines/understudy/server-configuration-2/fiordland.md).

## History

Saruman was previously named cayman (and before 2017-18 saruman) and was one of three servers running VMware ESXi used to host JCIRN.
